Johannes Thingnes Bø page

From the Olympic podium to the hunting grounds – Johannes Thingnes Bø begins a new chapter.

Johannes Thingnes Bø – Ambassador for Chevalier

After more than a decade at the very top of international biathlon, Johannes Thingnes Bø is turning his focus toward something new. Hunting. Community. Nature.
Now, he begins his journey into hunting – together with Chevalier.

When Johannes stepped away from elite sport, it wasn’t stillness that met him first – it was presence. Presence in everyday life, with his family, and in nature.

“Being able to sit on the floor and play with my children without thinking about the next interval session – that’s something truly special,” Johannes says.

After years of meticulous routines, training schedules, and constant focus on the next competition, he is now experiencing something entirely different. A life where family and the small, meaningful moments take centre stage. And it was within this new rhythm of life that hunting naturally found its place.

Hunting in Johannes’ Life

A Legacy Across Generations

Johannes grew up on a farm in Stryn, Norway, where homemade meals from hunting and fishing were a natural part of everyday life. His father has hunted for as long as he can remember. Although Johannes himself never had the time when he was younger – with orienteering, cross-country skiing, football, and biathlon filling his weeks – hunting was always there. A legacy. A direction for the future.

“I’ve always thought that the day I retire, I’ll start hunting,” he explains.

That’s why Johannes completed his hunting certification already in 2022 – to be ready. And when his career came to an end, there was no hesitation. Nor was there any doubt about who he would begin hunting with: his father.

For Johannes and his father, hunting is more than an activity. It’s time spent together. It’s learning. It’s silence, shared glances, and quiet words. It’s something they haven’t had much of over the past ten to fifteen years, while Johannes travelled the world competing.

“That might be the most beautiful part of hunting,” Johannes says softly. “Being able to share it with my father. And now, having him teach me something again.”

Johannes about - Choices that last

When Johannes talks about gear, he almost imperceptibly slips into the same tone he uses when describing his sports career – thoughtful, precise, and with an eye for details that only comes from deep experience.

"For me, good hunting clothing is about security," Johannes says. "It needs to be quiet, keep me warm, and let me move freely – whether it’s raining, snowing, or windy. These are garments that should work year after year, not just for one season."

When he tried Chevalier, he immediately recognised that same precision in the details. Materials that breathe while holding up against the elements, garments designed for Nordic conditions and for the terrain he moves in himself. That made the choice easy.

As a new hunter, he describes just how much that sense of security matters: knowing your clothing supports silence, warmth, and movement when it counts.

"I’ve worn top-level sportswear throughout my entire career," he says. "Finding hunting clothing with that same obvious quality – but made for the forest – takes the whole hunting experience to another level."

Wild. Beautiful. Raw.

When winter reaches Stryn in 2025, it’s the first time in a long while that Johannes isn’t on his way to a World Cup competition. Instead he’s at home – with family, training on his own terms, and with hunting as a new centre of life.

When Johannes sums up his hunting journey so far, he chooses three words from a saying in Norwegian orienteering tradition: Wild. Beautiful. Raw.

Three words that capture exactly what he feels:

  • Wild – in what he’s searching for, and hasn’t yet had.
  • Beautiful –in the moments with his dad, in the landscape, and in all the small things.
  • Raw –in the weather, the cold, the darkness, and the total honesty nature offers.

And despite missed chances, quiet stands, and wet days, his answer is crystal clear:

"I’ve enjoyed every single second."

And ahead of him lies a lifetime of hunting. Of community. Of nature. Of food made from scratch. Of memories not yet created.

For me, great hunting clothing is all about reliability and confidence, says Johannes.
