Chevalier History
Chevalier has always been driven by a desire to create garments that combine function, quality, and timeless design.
The story begins in 1950 in Dalsjöfors outside Borås, Sweden, where founder Arne Lundberg sewed the first riding breeches at home on the family farm. With a strong passion for horseback riding and design, Chevalier quickly became known for its well-tailored garments.
When the revolutionary 4-way stretch fabric was introduced, it transformed the market – and Chevalier became a leader in riding breeches, even supplying mounted police units.
From Riding Breeches to Hunting Apparel
In the 1980s, the company was sold, and production moved from Sweden to Finland and later to Portugal. Under new ownership, including Lars Björkman and Lars Elovsson, Chevalier took a new direction. The focus shifted from equestrian clothing to hunting gear, and a new slogan was introduced: "Chevalier – Quality and Craftsmanship."
Technological Milestones
In 1992, Chevalier began collaborating with Gore-Tex, leading to the launch of the Montana series – a silent, lightweight, and durable hunting outfit with a Gore-Tex liner. It became a major success and set a new industry standard. Shortly afterward came the MIDLAND – the first hunting set with Gore-Tex laminated directly to the outer fabric, further enhancing protection and comfort. For a time, Chevalier held exclusive rights to this material.
Product Expansion and Growth
From the mid-1990s, the range expanded to include shirts, fleece, accessories, and boots – including Husky, the company’s first boot with Gore-Tex. During the 2000s, Chevalier continued to grow both in Sweden and internationally, despite economic downturns and industry challenges. New products such as the Arizona Pro Pant and the Outland series further strengthened the brand. In 2012, the popular Vintage series was launched – trousers made of a fabric with a leather-like finish.
Design Collaborations and New Ownership
In 2016, Chevalier entered a high-profile design collaboration with Bernadotte & Kylberg, resulting in the Whisper collection – technically advanced hunting garments with a classic look. In 2019, Chevalier was acquired by Open Air Group, a company that brings together leading brands in hunting and outdoor life.
A New Era
In 2020, Chevalier celebrated its 70th anniversary and launched its e-commerce platform in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, and the rest of the EU – a major step into the brand’s future. Chevalier continues to honor its legacy of craftsmanship and quality while exploring new materials, technologies, and expressions.
A New Chapter – Everhunt
In 2025, Everhunt is formed – a new company bringing together the brands Chevalier and Alaska 1795 under one roof. Two distinct brands with different expressions and target groups, but a shared culture, common values, and strong internal collaboration. Everhunt is where tradition meets innovation – and where the future of hunting apparel is being built, for everyone who loves the hunt, in their own way.
75 Years of Quality and Innovation
In 2025, Chevalier celebrated 75 years. A brand born in a barn in Dalsjöfors has grown into an international player – but with the same core drive: to create clothing for a life closer to nature. Always with passion, and always with quality in every seam.
